Cuba, in short, was more than worth the ridiculously early departure and the heartbreaking goodbyes. Going into the trip, we imagined it as a vacation – two weeks in the Cuban sun with twenty-seven of our friends, and having to attend the occasional lecture or go on some trips. However, Cuba was much more than that. It was fourteen days of late nights and early mornings; singing and dancing. Through lectures from professors from the University of Matanzas and trips to various historical locations, we learned about the country’s complicated history. Through the music, food, walking the streets of Cuba, and our exchange partners, we learned about their culture. Most of us came back without a tan but with friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
